Habitation Caféière Samana Beauséjour awarded Green Key certification for the 4th consecutive year
🌿 Pride, consistency and a commitment to sustainability 🌍
It is with immense pride — and, we must admit, genuine emotion — that the entire team at Habitation Caféière Samana Beauséjour announces that we have been awarded the Clef Verte 2026 label🏆 for the fourth consecutive year!💚
Four years. Four times the same commitment. Four times the same conviction that sustainable tourism in Guadeloupe is not a marketing ploy, but a way of being, of living and of welcoming guests.
A label that cannot be improvised
The Clef Verte / Green Key is the leading international sustainable tourism label for accommodation. Developed in France by the Teragir association, it recognises establishments that are committed to a concrete, measurable and ongoing approach to responsible travel. By 2026, more than 5,000 establishments worldwide will hold this label — and Habitation Caféière Samana Beauséjour has been one of them, without interruption, since 2023.
Our Green Key reference number: GK11449. Valid until 31 December 2026. Signed by Thierry Lerévérend, Managing Director of Teragir.
It’s not a certificate you hang on the wall and forget about. It’s a milestone we recommit to every year.
What “sustainable” really means here, at an altitude of 300 metres, on the heights of Pointe-Noire
In a tropical archipelago as fragile and precious as Guadeloupe, ecotourism is not an option — it is a responsibility. When you run a 5-star guesthouse in Basse-Terre, nestled in a former colonial coffee plantation in the heart of Guadeloupe National Park, every decision has an impact: on water, on energy, on biodiversity, on the people who live and work here.
In practical terms, at Habitation Caféière Beauséjour, this commitment translates into:
-
💧 A dual rainwater system to preserve the archipelago’s natural resources
-
☀️ An 8.9 kWp solar power plant that reduces our fossil fuel consumption by 55%
-
⚡ Electric vehicle charging points installed on site, with a second currently being rolled out
-
♻️ Rigorous waste management, initiated well before our first certification
-
🌿 The Esprit Parc National label since 2024, in addition to the Green Key
We are now the only Best of the Best guesthouse in the Caribbean to hold both of these eco-labels: Green Key and Esprit Parc National. Proof, if any were needed, that excellence in hospitality and environmental responsibility reinforce rather than conflict with one another.
Clef Verte gave us a platform — and we spoke our minds
In 2025, Teragir / Clef Verte wanted to highlight our journey as part of their series of testimonials from certified establishments. We (Didier and Etienne) agreed to share, without embellishment, what this commitment means on a day-to-day basis at an ecolodge in Guadeloupe.

We discuss the audit process, which is demanding, intense, yet deeply rewarding. We discuss what it really means to “reduce your ecological footprint” when you live and work in a sensitive tropical ecosystem. And above all, we talk about what comes next: the certification isn’t a destination, it’s a starting point. Every renewal pushes us to reassess our practices, to go further, and never to rest on our laurels.
Why it matters — for you too
Are you looking for eco-friendly accommodation in Guadeloupe? A responsible holiday in the Caribbean? A place where the word ‘sustainable’ isn’t an empty promise but a verifiable, certified commitment, renewed every year?
We believe that sustainable tourism in the French overseas departments depends on operators who are willing to be assessed, judged, and to submit their report annually. That is what we have been doing since 2023. That is what we will continue to do.
Ecotourism in Guadeloupe can only be built on this condition: that the establishments claiming to be part of it accept the constraints, not just the benefits in terms of image.
Thank you
This 4th Green Key award is not just ours. It also belongs to all our guests who have chosen to travel differently, to support places that stand by their values, and to prefer a certified guesthouse in Guadeloupe to an anonymous hotel room.
You have come to stay in a carefully restored 18th-century coffee plantation house, nestled between the rainforest and tranquillity. You have chosen slow tourism, conscious travel and eco-friendly accommodation in the Caribbean. And that choice really does matter.
Thank you for your trust. Together, we’ll keep going.
