FORT DELGRÈS

Basse-Terre - 39km - 57min

Visit from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fort Delgrès, formerly Fort Saint-Charles, is a fort overlooking the town of Basse-Terre. It was a key site of the Franco-English struggle in the Antilles and then of the Guadeloupeans led by the mulatto officer and resistance fighter Louis Delgrès against the reestablishment of slavery by Richepanse.

Its thick stone walls overlook the sea and offer a vast panoramic view of the sea, the city and the mountains.
