HABITATION ROUSSEL-TRIANON

Grand-Bourg

Open every day

The Habitation Roussel Trianon was a sugar plantation at the end of the 17th century, founded in 1669. Before the abolition, sugar refineries mainly used natural energy for crushing cane, animal mills and windmills. The plantation underwent significant development in the 18th century thanks to Paul Botreau-Roussel, then modernized with the construction of a sugar factory and gradually switched to steam power from 1845. In 1860, Victor Trianon was the first to introduce the Derosne and Cail triple-effect devices for cooking operations.

The site is now the property of the Departmental Council of Guadeloupe.
